Day Two: Physical Pain and Food

Ok, so today is day two and I am totally sore from day one, and I mean sore.

This is the first I have been back to the gym in years. I can’t lift anywhere near what I did historically. But what I did lift was still too much. I remember when I was younger, being sore after working out was a sign you did all the right things, you pushed yourself. I am pretty sure what I am feeling is my body just giving up. Really though, I am trying to push myself a bit. But, I ache. I actually had one of my legs just not work and nearly went down to the floor.

Today, I also did 3.5 miles on the treadmill. Sadly, I have to take it kinda slow on the heart elevation stuff. I am not sure where that is at, I could have no problems but I will build up to that.

The challenge that I am doing is the 1% Fitness 6-week challenge. Basically, I can do whatever I want to get into shape eating their food. The story behind this and the reason for my doing it is a bit nostalgic. I actually met the owner of the company years ago when he was first getting started. He was in a Gold’s Gym giving out samples, pitching the idea of healthy pre-packaged meals for fitness. It was a great idea, obviously.

Part of my excuse for not eating healthy was that its cheaper and easier not to eat healthy. I have a large family, 8 kids, and we are always busy. So we ate a lot of pizza and quick meals, like mac and cheese, or chicken nuggets. We also always had treats in our house, which didn’t help. I know that I needed to eat better. What better incentive to get healthy, than a contest that has a meal plan and I could do better than break even on the cost.

Also, the food they have has a lot of variety and I can get it in varying calorie levels. I am just starting so I don’t know how everything will taste but I will share as I go.
